Indianapolis (07-February-2012) - Nick Weber, who recently helped the City of Indianapolis leverage money received from the sale of water and sewer utilities toward workforce development opportunities, was named to the Indianapolis Business Journal's Forty Under 40 Class of 2012.

Seventeen years ago, as a junior history and political science major at Indiana University, Weber interned in the media division of the Indiana House of Representatives' Republican caucus. Through that experience, Weber found his niche, and he has since experienced an illustrious career in government and corporate communications, the IBJ reported in its profile story on Weber.

"I've been fortunate," Weber said, "to be put in places where the skills that I have have been meaningful."

Weber began his career with the City of Indianapolis, first as a public information officer and then as press secretary for Mayor Steve Goldsmith. He went on to serve as vice president of outreach and communications for nonprofit Conexus Indiana, followed by positions as special assistant, campaign manager and press secretary for Sen. Richard G. Lugar. Before joining FaegreBD Consulting, Weber was deputy mayor for economic and workforce development under Indianapolis Mayor Gregory A. Ballard.

"I derive immense satisfaction from the public-service mindset," Weber told the IBJ. "I got involved in all this for the idea that in public service, you have the potential to help large numbers of people improve something in their lives. I think you can do that in the private sector, particularly if you're assisting companies to come to a community or cities to develop economic development strategies or find workforce development solutions."

At FaegreBD Consulting, Weber uses skills developed in the public sector to serve local governments and businesses engaged in economic development and to assist clients who need communications help with a legal issue, the IBJ reported.

Outside of his career, Weber is active in Christ the King Catholic Church and enjoys riding his motorcycle. He also performed communications work on a volunteer basis for the 2012 Indianapolis Super Bowl Host Committee.

Weber was selected for this honor from among nearly 250 applicants by the IBJ's selection committee. The Forty Under 40 Class of 2012 marks the 20th installment of this annual award.
