Carey Receives March of Dimes Public Affairs Leadership Award
WASHINGTON – Jennifer Nieto Carey received an award in recognition of her work on behalf of infants, children and their families from the March of Dimes at its National Public Affairs Conference Awards Dinner on Oct. 17. Carey received the award as part of U.S. Congresswoman Anna G. Eshoo's legislative team that worked on the passage of the Prematurity Research Expansion and Education for Mothers who deliver Infants Early (PREEMIE) Act.
The PREEMIE Act requires the Department of Health and Human Services and the Centers for Disease Control to expand and coordinate their research activities on preterm labor and delivery and infant mortality. It also requires the two organizations to conduct research on the relationship between prematurity, birth defects and developmental disabilities.
Additionally, the bill requires the Surgeon General to conduct a conference on prematurity and to make recommendations on how the public and private sectors can identify the causes of and risk factors for preterm labor and delivery and improve treatments.
Carey recently left the office of Congresswoman Eshoo to join B&D Consulting as an Assistant Vice President. B&D Consulting is a national advisory and advocacy firm based in Washington, D.C. Since 1985, its professionals have provided government relations, public affairs and communications, regulatory strategy, and management consulting services to private and public sector clients.
