The failed "California Right to Know Genetically Engineered Food Act," otherwise known as Proposition 37, has been tirelessly covered by media outlets since the November elections when 51.5 percent of California voters rejected the act on referendum. If passed, the act would have amended the California Health and Safety Code to mandate that foods with genetically engineered ingredients be labeled as such. Bradley McKinney of FaegreBD Consulting authored an article for Food Chemical News on the implications of the failed ballot initiative, and highlighted similar initiatives that are being proposed in nearly 30 states.
