Martin Luther King, Jr. Remembrance Events 2013
Each year, Faegre Baker Daniels and FaegreBD Consulting dedicate the week of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day as a special time to celebrate and focus on the civil rights movement, equality, and diversity and inclusion. In 2013, we shared videos firmwide each day of the week emphasizing leadership in diversity and inclusion by our professionals. We were pleased to conclude the week with a live conversation from our Chicago office between the Rev. Jesse Jackson, Sr. and our partner Brenda Robinson. Rev. Jackson shared memories of Martin Luther King, Jr.'s leadership, reinforced the ideals Dr. King advocated and encouraged personnel to become involved in the cause of equality.
Video features included:
- Partner Dirk de Roos, who delayed college to join the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee as part of the 1964 Mississippi Freedom Summer protesting Jim Crow laws.
- Partner Leslie Fields, the first woman of color on our firm's management board, and her mentor Joe Montano, the first Hispanic partner at a major Denver law firm, who overcame prejudice to advance in their careers.
- Partner Jon Laramore and former Indiana Supreme Court Chief Justice Randall Shepard, who described firm namesake Conrad Baker's work on behalf of equality and leadership in Indiana's ratification of the Civil War constitutional amendments.
We are proud to recognize and highlight these leaders who have carried on the work of Dr. King in their own ways, large and small. May their stories inspire each of us throughout the year.
