Mary Bono, a senior vice president at FaegreBD Consulting and former congresswoman from California, was interviewed by PBS show "To the Contrary" on the representation of women in Congress.
"You'd think that we would have 50/50 by now, and unfortunately we don't," Bono said of the congressional gender gap.
Bono stressed that women are skillful as men in advocating their positions in Congress. "Women are equally capable of political back-and-forth and fighting for their points of view, so I certainly don't believe women are the weaker sex when it comes to politics, and that's a great thing," she said.
Bono noted that when she entered Congress in 1998, there was still no easily accessible women's restroom off the House of Representatives' floor, a sign of the very few women in Congress at that time. "You'll be happy to know there is now a ladies' bathroom off the floor, so you can now make it to the bathroom during a vote and make it back, and there's a women's gym," Bono said.
