Singerman to Speak at Cleveland Economic Development Conference

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Phillip Singerman, Ph.D., Senior Vice President at B&D Consulting and nationally recognized innovator of economic development partnerships, will be a panelist at the 2008 Regional Economic Development Conference in Cleveland, Ohio, from May 12-14.

Singerman will participate in the session on "Tapping into the Potential of Bio-Science and Bio-Medicine Innovations." He brings 30 years of experience in public-private partnerships to promote local economic development.

Singerman's background includes positions in the public — local, state and federal — and private sectors. He was appointed U.S. Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Economic Development by President Bill Clinton and served from 1995-99. Most recently, he served as a Managing Director of Toucan Capital Fund II, a venture capital firm specializing in life science investments. Singerman joined B&D Consulting's public sector group in 2008.

In April, Singerman participated in the Economic Development Administration's Regional Conference in New Orleans for the Austin and Atlanta regions. He also will be a speaker at the EDA Regional Conference in Denver on Sept. 9-10 for the Seattle and Denver regions.

In Cleveland, the conference — titled "Beyond Innovation: Partnerships and Comprehensive Strategies for Transforming Our Regional Economies" — will address a slate of interesting and timely topics for representatives of economic development districts, university centers, revolving loan funds and tribal planning grantees from across the EDA's Chicago and Philadelphia regional districts. Conference attendees also will have an opportunity to share ideas and exchange information about their programs and initiatives.
