During this day-long conference, investigators, regulators, patient advocates, counterfeit drug victims and law enforcement officials will gather to focus on counterfeit drugs, an issue of growing concern in the United States.
Libby Baney of B&D Consulting will join officials from the Food and Drug Administration, the U.S. Department of State, U.S. Immigrations and Customs Enforcement, the Office of the White House Intellectual Property Enforcement Coordinator and others to provide insight on this topic. Baney, who serves as counsel and strategic advisor to the Alliance for Safe Online Pharmacies, will serve on a panel that will describe strategies for combating counterfeit drugs and determining which online pharmacies are legal and safe to use.
Other sessions at the conference will include "Protecting our Medicines" and "The Role of Patients and Health Care Professionals," as well as an address by the undersecretary for Economic, Energy, and Agricultural Affairs at the U.S. State Department. John Morton, director of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), will give the keynote address to conclude the event. In this position, Morton has strengthened ICE's investigative efforts into export controls and intellectual property enforcement.
