A recent investigation by the Government Accountability Office (GAO) has brought the Affordable Care Act (ACA) back into the political spotlight. In a series of undercover tests, the GAO was able to successfully enroll 11 of 12 fake people into the federal marketplace, prompting a discussion about potential enrollment fraud. In an article on the topic in The Hill, Mike Adelberg, senior director at FaegreBD Consulting, characterized the GAO’s findings as the result of natural growing pains and discussed the difference between a fraudulent enrollment and a fraudulent effectuated enrollment.

“The GAO found some real issues, but this is a young program that will shore up its processes over time,” Adelberg said.
