Larry Stern is a senior advisor on the insurance services team with FaegreBD Consulting. Active in the insurance industry for more than 25 years, he worked for a major rating agency and large professional services firm before joining FaegreBD Consulting. Larry actively works with insurance companies (both traditional carriers and captives) on rating agency, operational, and merger and acquisition related matters. He also assists regulators with their review of Form A filings and solvency monitoring issues in their jurisdiction. In addition to his work in the traditional market, Larry is a leader on the firm's captive management team, where he provides formation, captive management and other consulting services, particularly in his role as a captive manager.
Some of Larry's other representative experience includes performing a financial review of a large global insurance market, devising a proprietary financial policy for a health care network and assisting numerous middle market carriers (particularly health, workers' compensation and other commercial lines insurers) with rating agency issues. He has instructed financial analysis training courses at the College of Insurance and conducted training sessions for insurance department analysts and examiners at several state insurance departments. During his career, Larry has authored and co-authored numerous research studies and articles in the property/casualty, life/health, alternative market, and excess and surplus lines sectors.
Larry has significant analytical expertise and operational experience with both insurance companies and regulators, having worked with insurers across all sectors, regulators in many states, law firms, captives and risk retention groups in the U.S. as well as in London, Bermuda, Canada, China and South Korea.
