David U. Gogol

Vice Chair

David Gogol is the founder of FaegreBD Consulting's federal lobbying practice. He has more than 30 years experience in Washington, D.C.; in the Senate; and as a lobbyist.

While David serves a diverse practice, he is best known for his work with local governments, economic development organizations and federal funding programs. Having worked for dozens of communities across the nation, he brings a broad base of experience to local leaders, playing a broad advisory role in addition to his federal affairs expertise. Perhaps distinctively, David works for communities led by both parties, serving some communities for 20 years and advising multiple administrations.

David's economic development practice has centered on waterfront development, urban redevelopment and innovation-driven economic development. He leads the firm's work with nationally recognized intermediaries that support early stage company formation, technology (university and federal) commercialization, and related knowledge-based strategies. In federal funding matters, David has led hundreds of efforts to secure federal funding through earmarks, competitive grants and federal agency partnerships. His long experience and cross-agency expertise provides expertise that is valued by institutions with broad missions.

During his tenure on Capitol Hill, David served as legislative assistant and later as director to U.S. Sen. Richard Lugar (R-IN), where he played a key role in legislation such as the New York City Recovery Act, the Chrysler Loan Guarantee Act and other legislation of national importance. David served as the assistant to the chairman of the Senate Subcommittee on Housing and Urban Development where he played a leadership role in legislation of importance to urban America, including the Community Development Block Grant program, the Department of Housing and Urban Development, and the Federal Transit Administration.
